One in three Cyprus hotels is three star

Paphos and the free Famagusta area between them account for three out of five hotels in Cyprus, according to CTO figures submitted to parliament.

They show that in the first three quarters of 2018, Cyprus had 86,458 tourist beds.  One third of the 236 hotels are three star (79), of which 37 are in the Famagusta area.

Cyprus has 26 five-star hotels with a total capacity of 12,308 beds of which 11 are in Paphos, seven in Limassol, six in the Famagusta area, one in Nicosia and one in Larnaca.

Overall, the free Famagusta area has 76 hotels, Paphos has 59, Limassol 31, Larnaca 30, the mountain resorts 20 and Nicosia also 20.

Of the 20 hotels in the capital, half are two-star.

The Famagusta area has the most tourist beds — 35,496 as well as the largest number of hotel apartments (58% of the total).  Paphos has 10,970 beds, Limassol 10,733, Larnaca 6,287, Nicosia 2629 and the mountain resorts 2,206.

The figures were submitted as part of discussion on new legislation on the operation and classification of hotels and other tourist accommodation.

It introduces the category of boutique and suite hotels. Moreover, the new system has 24 compulsory criteria to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and 114 optional criteria.
