October 2018 tourist arrivals highest ever in Cyprus for specific month

Arrivals of tourists reached 433,617 in October 2018 compared to 406,870 in October 2017, recording an increase of 6.6%, according to Statistical Service figures.

This was the highest ever number of tourist arrivals for the month of October.

For the period of January – October 2018 arrivals of tourists totalled 3,673,377 compared to 3,408,473 in the corresponding period of 2017, recording an increase of 7.8% and outnumbering the total arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the first ten months of the year.

Analysis of changes

Tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom increased by 12.4% in October 2018 compared to October 2017 while an increase of 4.8% was recorded for tourists from Sweden and 2.0% increase from Greece. In contrast, there was a drop of 4.5% in tourist arrivals from Russia and of 19.0% in arrivals from Germany.

Main countries

The United Kingdom constitutes the main source of tourism for Cyprus for October 2018, with a proportion of 34.9% while arrivals from Russia comprise 19.2% of total arrivals, from Germany 5.9% and from Sweden 4.6%.

Purpose of visit

For a percentage of 86.1% of tourists, the purpose of their trip in October 2018 was holidays, for 8.1% to visit to friends and relatives and for 5.8% business.
