Number of enterprises in Cyprus records increase in 2016

In 2016 the number of enterprises reached 93.066 compared to 90.162 in 2015, thus recording an increase of 3.2%, according to figures by the Cyprus Statistical Service.

A press release says that the number of establishments increased by 1.4%, from 98.765 in 2015 to 100.118 in 2016.

It is noted that during the period from 2011 to 2014 the number of enterprises and establishments was decreasing. 

The most significant decrease was observed during the years 2013-2014, when a decrease of 1.7% and 4.3% was recorded in the number of enterprises and establishments respectively. In the following years, the number of enterprises and establishments increased.

In 2016, compared to establishments the percentage increase of enterprises was higher. In 2016, 95.3% of enterprises were employing less than 10 persons.

The biggest productive sector in number of enterprises was ‘Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles’ followed by ‘Construction’, while the smallest sector was ‘Mining and Quarrying’.
