Nicosia Municipality has signed a €1.8 million agreement with the Electricity Authority to replace 7,300 street lights with smart LED technology, expected to reduce energy consumption by more than 65%.
Signed by Mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis and EAC president Michalis Komodromos, the agreement is part of the municipality’s efforts to promote sustainable development by reducing carbon emissions.
“This project will contribute to upgrading the street lighting and change the town’s image at night. The installation of the new lighting will lead to energy savings of more than 65%, and by extension significantly reduce costs and better protect the environment,” the mayor said.
Komodromos said the EAC was proud that local authorities were trusting the authority to upgrade their street lighting. “Contributing to saving energy is a social responsibility for all iof us. In the EAC, we consider energy saving a strategic pillar of growth.”
The agreement provides for the purchase of the LED lights, replacing the old lights, disposing of the old lights in line with environmental rules and maintenance.
