New projects boost for Famagusta worth €34.4m

President Nicos Anastasiades announced recently new projects for Famagusta amounting to €34.4 million.

Anastasiades attended a meeting at Paralimni Municipality to declare the development package for schools, roads and parks.

During the period 2013-2016 a total of €32.2 million was spent on projects in the Famagusta district, while the amount provided for projects in the 2017 budget is €23.3 million.

President Anastasiades said that through the cooperation and the sacrifices of the people of Cyprus, “we are able to restore the prestige and the credibility of the state, the financial system, and create stability conditions and growth rates which today are among the highest in the EU”.

He expressed his satisfaction over the Ayia Napa marina construction, noting that this is one of the biggest investments which will significantly contribute to the tourism in the region.

Plans for the development of marine tourism also include the construction of the Paralimni marina estimated to cost €100 million with a capacity of approximately 300 vessels.

Anastasiades said that the agreement achieved with the UK government to establish development zones in communities within the British Sovereign Bases is significant for the region including the municipality of Dherynia and the communities of Achna, Liopetri, Avgorou, Frenaros and Aheritou in the Famagusta district.

Among the new projects is a new Famagusta District Court to be built in Paralimni at a cost of €5.5 million. Construction is expected to begin in January 2018.

In Ayia Napa, the Primary School will be expanded at a cost of €220,000 and completed in December 2018.

Furthermore, an amount of €300,000 will be allocated to upgrade and maintain the cycle lane from Ayia Napa to Cape Greco.

In Dherynia a new nursery will be built costing €400,000.

The project will begin in September 2018 and will be completed one year later.
