Speaking to the press, Association for Large Investment Projects and Paphos Chamber of Commerce Chairman Andreas Demetriades confirmed recent discussions with Cairo officials had touched on the creation of flights to Egypt from Paphos.
He added that it was very possible that flights could be leaving from Paphos for a number of Egyptian airports within the year. As things currently stand, there are only flights to Egypt out of Larnaca.
But the connections will not only be restricted to air travel.
“What can be considered a very positive, if perhaps more unexpected than an air link, is the issue of a cruise ship route between Cyprus and Egypt,” Demetriades said.
He said Egypt has appeared very positive about the issue, adding the project would likely begin with tourism-focused routes from Egypt to Cyprus over the summer months before possibly expanding.
Demetriades said the cruise ships would likely have to dock in Limassol because of the existing infrastructure as opposed to Paphos.
