New Cyprus Central Bank Governor takes office

Central Bank Governor Chrystalla Georghadji officially takes office during an investiture ceremony at the Presidential Palace.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Anastasiades said that Georghadji’s abilities, ethos, integrity and independence were the criteria that contributed to her selection as Central Bank Governor, one of the country’s top institutions.

“During these difficult times for the economy your contribution to restoring confidence in the banking sector is vital to the efforts we are making to return to development and of course, the markets,” Anastasiades said. “In the framework of this effort, the state’s services must be restructured so as to respond to the increased demands of citizens for good governance, meritocracy, transparency in the actions of the administration and accountability. The state must upgrade the quality of services it provides,” the President added.

New Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides, Commissioner for Civil Service Reform Irena Georgiades, Equality Commissioner Josephine Antoniou and Greek Cypriot representative on the Committee of Missing Persons (CMP) Nestoras Nestoras also took up their new duties during the ceremony.
