New Cyprus airline takes to the skies

The new Cyprus airline, Cobalt, recently embarked on its maiden flight.

The flight which departed at 10:25 Wednesday morning from Larnaca airport en route to Athens marked the official launching of the company’s operations. The flight which landed in Athens at 12 noon, was followed by a news conference at the Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel.

Monday saw the company inaugurating its first plane on the island in a special ceremony at Larnaca airport attended by Archbishop Chrysostomos and Transport Minister Marios Demetriades.

Cobalt CEO, Andrew Pyne, stated that the company aims at developing into an important regional player in air travel while at the same time promoting Cyprus as a tourist destination.

It is expected that by the end of June, Cobalt will have increased its fleet by a further three planes. Flights to the UK and other European destinations are expected to be included in the company’s schedules. Programmed flights will include destinations including Athens, Thessaloniki, Chania, London (Stansted), Manchester, Dublin, and Paris.

Expansion of the company’s operations is expected with the gradual addition of more planes to the company’s fleet within 2016 and 2017.
