The Commissioner for the development of mountain communities Costas Hambiaouris on Monday praised the Limassol municipality’s decision to move two events included in the 60th Wine Festival to mountainous communities.
Hambiaouris met Limassol mayor Nicos Nicolaides to discuss the events. The two events featured in the festival will take place in the villages of Arsos and Doros on October 10 and 17 respectively.
“The decision to move to events from Limassol to the mountains once again demonstrates our commitment to highlight our remote communities, which are prominent in terms of wine production,” Hambiaouris said after the meeting.
“Such events underline the role that mountain communities have in the production of wine and I am confident that this will become a permanent trait of the festival in the years to come.”
Commandaria, an amber-coloured sweet dessert wine, is traditionally produced at the foothills of the Troodos mountains and the villages of Arsos and Doros are known for producing it.
“There will be wine tasting, music, dancing, food, special activities in both the events that will take place in the two villages,” Nicolaides said after the meeting.
The Limassol Wine Festival, a staple of the town’s recent history, will take place from October 9 to 16.
