More than 850,000 beneficiaries have signed up with the general health scheme (Gesy), the health insurance organisation (HIO) said on Wednesday as it hailed the scheme’s first 18 months of operation as a success.
In an announcement taking stock of Gesy’s operation so far, overshadowed since March by the coronavirus outbreak, the HIO stuck an upbeat note saying figures showed the public’s trust.
According to HIO, 853,422 beneficiaries have signed up, with 756,440 visits to personal doctors and 574,007 visits to specialists.
Moreover, 333,080 beneficiaries have gone to specialist doctors for diagnostic tests, with 606,083 prescriptions issued and 523,679 lab tests carried out.
From June, beginning of phase two of Gesy bringing in private hospitals, till December 2020 a total of 43,448 beneficiaries were hospitalised.
Health professionals have also warmed to Gesy the HIO added, and so far, 1,745 specialist doctors, 541 personal doctors for adults, 196 personal doctors for children, 147 labs, 534 pharmacies and 54 private and public hospitals and clinics have joined.
“For the Health Insurance Organisation, the positive data reinforce its commitment to establish a comprehensive health system based on solid foundations which ensures that all citizens, without discrimination and exclusion, enjoy equal and unimpeded access to health care services throughout their lives,” it said.
And it pledged to continue efforts to improve Gesy to make it more effective and functional and succeed in offering upgraded health services to beneficiaries.
