According to a press release recently issued by the Ministry, officials have recently met with Troika officials and submitted a study and an action plan prepared by the Civil Aviation Department, concerning accessibility and air connections of Cyprus with the world. The press release says that the policy to be implemented, in combination with existing and or new plans to give incentives to foreign airlines, prepared by the state, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation and Hermes Airports are expected to improve air connections of Cyprus with third countries. It will also increase the competitiveness of the tourist product with positive fallout on the number of arrivals, on revenue and on extending the tourist season.
This, it notes, will serve better the public traveling abroad, either on business or on holidays, with more competitive options. It can also serve foreigners, including business men, investors or others who want to visit Cyprus. In addition, the press release announces the establishment of a committee on air connections which will work under the auspices of the Civil Aviation Department. The committee will comprise all competent authorities, such as the Cyprus Tourism Organization, the Pancyprian Association of Hoteliers, the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises and the Association of Cyprus Travel Agents. The committee will meet regularly to exchange views and present proposals to the Minister of Communications and Works with the aim to take further political decisions, when necessary.
