Master plan for old Larnaca refinery

Larnaca’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EVEL) is formulating a Master Plan towards the best use for the former fuel refineries and storage units on the Larnaca-Dekelia road.

In a written announcement, EVEL recently said it was cooperating on the Master Plan with Hellenic Petroleum, Exxon Mobil Cyprus, Synergaz, Intergaz, and Petrolina.

Through the study, EVEL said it “intends to submit expert opinions in line with the provisions on the law in connection to working out a plan for the area of the former Larnaca refineries. Developing the area following the transfer of the facilities will involve commercial, tourism and housing development as well as its environmental upgrading”.

EVEL said its Master Plan would be submitted to the authorities for Town Planning Council consideration. “It will also be a suggestion on which the desirable rules for viable, identifiable development, cohesive planning and, ultimately a quality environment, will have to apply”.

The announcement came ahead of a study by an international independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists Arup in cooperation with Greek advisors. Commenting, EVEL Chairman Othonas Theodoulou said the project would be a large-scale development for the town and district of Larnaca and one which was expected to attract significant investment.
