Marginal decline of jobless rate in Cyprus

Unemployment in Cyprus declined marginally by 0.77% in November 2013, according to recently released figures by the Cyprus Statistical Service.



According to CyStat, unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices at the end of November 2013, reached 49.334 persons. On the basis of seasonally adjusted data that shows the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for November 2013 decreased to 50.196 persons in comparison to 50.584 in the previous month.

Compared with November 2012, the registered unemployed persons recorded an increase of 9.812 persons or 24,8% which was mainly observed in the sectors of financial and insurance activities (an increase of 1.701 unemployed persons), trade (an increase of 1.642), accommodation and food service activities (an increase of 1.107), manufacturing (an increase of 954), construction (an increase of 924), as well as to newcomers in the labour market where an increase of 890 unemployed persons was recorded.
