Focusing on developing higher education standards in Cyprus, The American University of Cyprus (AUCY), an institution which aims to provide the best-in-class levels of university learning, was inaugurated on November 27 on its campus located in the middle of Larnaca, under the auspices of the Mayor of Larnaca Andreas Vyras.
Due to the current pandemic climate, the opening was limited to the presence of the mayor accompanied by the management committee of AUCY in a modest and safe environment away from other political or local officials, special guests, media and general public in the hope that when the situation permits, AUCY will be able to open its Campus’ doors to the whole community.
As Larnaca continues to thrive, it witnesses a growing demand from its young population and communities overseas for quality higher education and developed curriculum based on the American system. AUCY plans to enable its graduates to meet the ever-changing challenges that occur in the job market.
In his address, Andreas Vyras mentioned that education is essential for each individual as it can lead to a better future. Education plays an important role in providing us with knowledge, it helps us to interpret things rightly and apply it in real life. Apart from that we can build good manners, character and makes a person a real human. In order to achieve all these, we need to be able to choose the right standard of education in our country. Choosing the right standard of education is important for the progress which means we must equip ourselves with a good education and that’s why we should never neglect it. The American University of Cyprus – AUCY provides a high quality of higher education, located here in our city, and offers great educational opportunities.
The rector of AUCY, Marc-Antoine Zabbal, welcomed the mayor of Larnaca on Campus and stressed on the significance of contributing in the advancement of higher education in Cyprus and in particular the districts of Larnaca and Famagusta. “The vision and the mission of AUCY is to provide high quality standard of education to all Cypriot and non-Cypriot students, supplying them with academic excellence, theoretical and practical and subsequently enabling them to excel in the job market upon graduation. Our main goal is not only to equip students with respectable degrees, but also evolve them as an indispensable member of the community that they will be functioning in.”
AUCY is under the evaluation by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA) and is proceeding with the prospect of operating in September 2021 with the faculties of Business Administration and Economics, Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Sciences and Technology.
