Laiki collapse must be thoroughly investigated

The circumstances and decisions that led to the collapse of Laiki Bank should be fully and thoroughly investigated by state independent investigators, Deputy Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos said recently.

Commenting on reports by the New York Times, Papadopoulos said the government has occasionally received information and memos have been prepared that confirm “the need for an independent, reliable and speedy investigation of the facts, which we are sure the Law Office is carrying out with all the facilities already provided by the government.”

Asked who prepared the report the New York Times were citing, Papadopoulos said an investigation should be carried out the soonest possible to clarify everything, noting that the government and society demanded a thorough investigation into the reasons Laiki collapsed.
