Kazakos resigns board position to lead international shipping body

Former Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) director general Thomas Kazakos has resigned as director of Lordos Hotels (Holdings) Public Limited, effective February 28, 2025.

Kazakos will assume his new role as Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) on April 1, 2025. This marks a significant honour for both Kazakos and the Cypriot shipping industry, showcasing Cyprus’ growing influence on the global stage.

Reflecting on his career via LinkedIn, Kazakos expressed gratitude for his 33 years at the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), which he called his ‘University of Life’. “33 years of experience at the Cyprus Shipping Chamber were packed into 3 boxes tonight,” he said on professional social media network LinkedIn. “A big ‘Thank you’ and ‘Goodbye’ to this ‘University of Life’ for all that it has offered me together with the special partners of Cyprus shipping – my ‘Odyssey’ continues,” he added.

To be mentioned, selected unanimously by the ICS board of directors from a field of internationally recognised candidates, Kazakos is the first Cypriot to lead the organisation. The ICS, based in London, advocates for the shipping industry at major bodies including the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and represents associations responsible for over 80 per cent of the world’s merchant fleet.

As Kazakos steps into his new role, he brings a wealth of experience and a forward-looking approach to guide the ICS through the upcoming challenges of the global shipping industry.
