In the first half of the year, Cyprus saw total arrivals increase an annual 21% to 1,255,240, partly on regional geopolitical events, Cystat said in a statement on its website.
Arrivals from the UK, traditionally Cyprus’ largest market of incoming tourists, which decided on June 23 to exit the European Union, rose 21% in June to 148,812 while those from Russia, Cyprus’ second largest market, rose 42% to 127,244, Cystat said. Arrivals from Greece and Israel rose 30% and 59% to 16,559 and 14,864 respectively, while those from Germany dropped 4.1% last month to 9,508.
In a separate statement, Cystat said that the number of Cyprus residents who travelled abroad in June rose 5.8% to 100,764 compared with the respective month of 2015.
