July 2019 unemployment at lowest level in 8 years

The number of registered Cyprus unemployed has reached its lowest point since 2011 following an annual 17% drop in July 2019, according to official data released recently.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for July decreased to 22,106 from 22,413 in the previous month.

Registered jobless at District Labour Offices on the last day of July 2019, reached 20,582.

Compared with July 2018, a decrease of 4,221 persons or 17% was recorded.

This is attributed mainly to the sectors of trade (-744), construction (-526), public administration (-458), accommodation and food service activities (-332), manufacturing ( -272), professional, scientific and technical activities (-129) and to newcomers in the labour market (-1,446).

Registered unemployed does not include the self-employed or those who seek part-time employment.
