How-to day for EU funding applications

The public can learn more about EU funding opportunities and how to obtain part of the €950 million allocated to Cyprus from European structural and investment funds for the period 2014-2020.

The event, which will be held on May 21, 2014 at the Filoxenia Conference Centre in Nicosia, is being organised by the General Directorate for European Programmes, Coordination and Development (DG EPSA) and the European Commission Representation in Cyprus.

During the first part there will be a presentation of the Financial Information Portal Programmes and the public can be briefed on how to prepare competitive proposals for the research and innovation programmes ‘Erasmus+’ and ‘Creative Europe’ and to find partners for the programme‘Horizon 2020’.

Contacts for European and national programmes will also be present to answer questions.

The Head of Delegation of the European Commission George Markopouliotis urged the public to attend the exhibition and learn and utilise the opportunities provided.

He said that over the next seven years around €950m will flow into Cyprus in the form of grants to stimulate growth and employment.

‘Horizon 20210, he said, has a budget of €80b. The programme focuses on research and innovation “promising more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market”.

Director-General of DG EPSA George Georgiou said there would also be a presentation of the online information portal, which started on March 18, which offers the broadest spectrum of information yet on available European and national programmes.

“Efficient and effective utilisation of EU funds is primary target ‘for DG EPSA,” he said, adding that the goal was the complete absorption of funds allocated to Cyprus for the period 2014-2020 by the European Structural Funds and Investment organisation.

He said the goal was to create a line of communication with stakeholders about programmes that interest them, and inform them how to prepare applications.
