In a statement issued on Friday, the bank said that through the conversion of ten of its branches into ‘energy-friendly hubs’ it was able to achieve energy savings of 50% to 60% in those branches, while bank and personnel initiatives in the rest of the bank’s premises resulted in cost savings of €416,000 (or 18%) in 2013 compared to the year before.
Energy-saving measures taken included roof insulation, installing energy-efficient windowpanes, replacing air-conditioners with new class-A ones, and utilising LED lamps and signs.
The bank also noted the ministry’s praise of its ‘Environment Officers’ designated in the energy-friendly branches, as well as its newly-created ‘Energy Saving Championship’, which pits all branches against each other in a race to achieve the greatest energy savings.
Thus far, the statement said, 12 buildings and branches have been awarded the innovative ‘Green Offices’ environmental quality certificate.
