Half of registered employees in Cyprus today earn up to €1,500 monthly

Half of registered employees in Cyprus today get a monthly salary of up to €1,500 while 25.7% of them get a gross salary of €1,000, according to the island’s Statistical Service.

Last year, those employees earning up to €1,000 monthly were 22.4% and this shows that low paid ones are on the rise, Philenews also reported on Monday.

The percentage of employees receiving a salary between €1,001 and €1,500 decreased to 25.2% this year compared to 28.9% in 2019 and 28.1% in 2018.

At the same time, 15.2% of employees now have monthly earnings between €1,501 and €2,000, compared to 16.3% in 2019 and 15.7% in 2018.

In 2014, a year after bankrupt Cyprus joined the painful memorandum adjustment program, the percentage of employees with gross monthly earnings up to €1,000 stood at 27.2%.

Additionally, 9.9% of employees got a salary between €2,001 and €2,500 compared to 10% in 2019 without any substantial change over the years in this salary category.
