Deputy Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos pointed out that the current system does not provide such protection, adding that the proposed bills could be discussed at the parliament.
Opposition parties have said that the bill would not be passed as it is and called for amendments.
On Tuesday, the Democratic Party and the Movement of Social Democrats EDEK, in collective meetings, decided to reject the proposed bill, whose approval is a prerequisite for the release of the next tranche of Cyprus’ bailout by its international lenders, namely the Troika of the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission.
According to well informed sources, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades seems satisfied with the outcome of the meetings he had today with leaders of political parties on the bill of foreclosures of mortgaged properties.
Particularly, President Anastasiades met with the President of Democratic Party (DIKO) Nicolas Papadopoulos and the President of the European Party (EVROKO) Demetris Syllouris.
According to the same sources, the President seems to accept some arguments put forward by the political parties on the bill, which he considers reasonable.
He also believes that the conditions exist for consensus on the foreclosures bill to have it approved by the House extraordinary plenary session scheduled for Monday.
"The Government recognizes the right of the House to make amendments to the bill which will not revoke its overall philosophy so that the government will be able to negotiate these changes with the Troika", thesame sources said.
Meanwhile, according to the same sources, discussions with the Troika in a bid to bring about changes to the bill continue on a daily basis.
President Anastasiadies will meet tomorrow with President of EDEK Yiannakis Omirou at the Presidential Palace and chair a meeting of the Council of the political party leaders convened by him to discuss the foreclosures bill.
