Government not to sell CPA or the ports

Minister of Communications and Works says that the Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA) will remain the supervisory and regulatory authority over Cypriot ports and the state will continue to have a say and a role to play.

Communications Minister Marios Demetriades said that “there is a slight misunderstanding regarding the privatisation of the Ports Authority, since we are not talking about selling the Authority but part of its commercial activities will be outsourced to the private sector”. He noted that this process would only yield benefits, adding that by outsourcing part of these activities to the private sector andwith expert’s contributing "I believe we will improve to a great extent the revenue earned by the state from these services," he said.

He added that the state would continue to have a role and a say in Cypriot ports since, as he said, the Port Authority will continue to be the supervisory and regulatory body, reminding that the President of the Board of the Authority is also the Director General of the Ministry of Communications and Works.
