The popular holiday resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras are flooded with visitors just like the good old days in 2019, key tourism players told Philenews.
The good thing this year is that French and Polish tourists have given fingers up to these resorts in addition to Cypriots from other districts – especially Nicosians.
Famagusta Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP) represetative Lakis Avraamides said that demand in August for hotels, apartments and holiday villas was quite high.
He also stated that the occupancy rate of hotels in operation was over 80%, with many being overbooked until the end of August.
The increased arrivals this year from not so traditional markets such as the French and Polish were also welcomed.
“We had arrivals from these countries in previous years as well, but never so many. Our goal is to build on these markets so as to have them next year and the years to come”, he said.
“However, despite the increase, only a percentage of the Russian loss was covered. It will take time to fill this market”, he added.
