Industrial turnover rises 2.9% in March 2016, Cystat says

The industrial turnover index rose in March 2016 by an annual 2.9%, boosted mainly by increased sales by Cypriot manufacturers and companies in the mining and quarrying industry, the statistical service said.

The overall increase in industrial turnover in March resulted mainly from an annual 8.3% increase in the turnover of Cypriot manufacturers, Cystat said in a statement on its website on Tuesday. Domestic sales of manufacturing companies rose 9.7% in March while exports rose 2.8%.

Turnover in mining and quarrying rose 3.1% in March, while that in electricity and power supply and recycling dropped 22% and 0.9% compared to the respective month of 2015 respectively, Cystat said.

In the first quarter, overall industrial sales rose 0.9%, as a 6.8% and 41% increase in the turnover of manufacturing and mining and quarrying companies, more than offset a 22% drop in electricity and 4.9% drop in water supply and recycling, Cystat said.
