Cyprus records the third largest decrease in employment by 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2013 among the EU member states, according to datareleased recently by Eurostat.
The number of persons employed in Cyprus decreased in the fourth quarter of 2013 compared to the third, while at the same period employment increased in the Eurozone, the EU28 and Greece. However, the decline in employment has slowed significantly compared with the previous three quarters with a decline between -1.0% and -1.8%. According to the figures, quarterly employment in Greece rose 0.2% while in the Eurozone and the EU28 by 0.1%. On an annual basis, the unemployment rate fell by 4.1% in Cyprus during the third quarter of 2013 compared to the same period of 2012.
