The construction and use of the underwater EastMed pipeline for the transfer of natural gas from the EEZs of Cyprus and Israel is technically feasible and economically sound.
This is the conclusion reached by the general managers of the ministries for energy from Greece, Cyprus, and Israel at a trilateral meeting in Athens. The recent meeting in Athens was an all-day one, and was completed early in the evening.
The underwater pipeline can serve as an alternative or an additional choice for natural gas exports to whichever solutions are decided upon, depending on future discoveries.
Israeli support for the underwater pipeline is strong, since the country is looking for a safe avenue to export its own natural gas.
