The project was presented at a press conference on Thursday in Nicosia in the presence of Cyta Chairman Stathis Kittis and senior Cyta officials, Radius President Jim Byous, CSnet Director General Leonard Whitlock, and representatives of Ministries, organisations and companies.
The Poseidon system will extend for some 800 km from two shore landings in Cyprus, creating a self-healing ring that borders the Cypriot exclusive economic zone, enveloping the offshore oil and gas lease blocks established for development by the Republic of Cyprus.
Byous presented the Poseidon project and Whitlock referred to the Offshore Communications Backbone control system, which has already been laid south of Cyprus, with the capacity to record and provide oceanographic, seismic and hydrographic data.
Kittis pointed out the importance of the Cyta`s cooperation with Radius and CSnet, which will offer broadband and other oceanographic services for the offshore hydrocarbon industry in the Eastern Mediterranean.
