Cyprus wins award at airline conference

Cyprus won the “Destination Award” at the Routes World Airline Conference, held in Bahrain from October 6 to 8, as its global reputation in air connectivity grows, the deputy Ministry of Tourism said.

The Routes World conference, a central event for the aviation industry since 1995, gathers senior figures from airlines, airports, and global stakeholders. This year, more than 230 top airlines and 680 aviation companies attended. Cyprus’ deputy ministry of tourism received the “Destination Award” in the “Tourism Authorities” category for its efforts in promoting Cyprus and expanding its network.

Competing against finalists from the Philippines, Japan, Spain, and Malta, Cyprus took the title through delegate votes. This award is Cyprus’ first in this category, which, according to the ministry, “crowns the continuous and intense efforts made by the government and the deputy ministry of tourism for the international recognition of Cyprus as a tourist destination, but also by the entire tourism industry.”

Deputy minister of tourism Costas Koumis described the award as “a great success and an indication of the recognition that the country receives internationally.” He added that “international distinctions in the tourism sector are always important, as they add prestige, recognition and dynamics to the destination.” Koumis congratulated all involved in Cyprus’s tourism sector, stating, “The award for Cyprus as a destination is a success for the country, and all those involved in the tourism ecosystem of our country deserve congratulations.”

Reflecting on the government’s focus on results, he said, “We aimed from the start to bring back our high performance.” He concluded, “We look forward to the next day, knowing the challenges in tourism are multiple and ongoing.”
