Cyprus students take top prizes in ICAEW chartered accountancy exams

Students from Cyprus were once more among the highest performing students globally in the latest ICAEW ACA exams for 2013.

Seven of the highest scorers in ICAEW’s 2013 Professional Stage exams were students from Cyprus College, Globaltraining and PwC Academy in Larnaca, Limassol and Nicosia, reaffirming the island’s status as one of the accountancy training centres with the best-performing students. Three Cyprus trainees took joint first place in the Audit & Assurance exam.

1,268 students from around the world completed the Professional Stage in December 2013 and will now move on to the Advanced Stage of ICAEW’s prestigious ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant) qualification.
Martyn Jones, ICAEW President said: “Once again, this result demonstrates both the tremendously high caliber of Cypriot students and the quality of the training and tuition on offer – these students should feel justifiably proud that they have shone in an extremely competitive environment. These young people represent the business and finance leaders of tomorrow. A strong accountancy and finance profession is critical to economic success; that some of the finest young accountants are Cypriot augurs well for the future.”

Mark Protherough, ICAEW Executive Director - Learning & Professional Development, said: “I’m thrilled that our successful students can start the New Year with a boost, and I would like to congratulate them all on their hard work and success. Our wide range of talented trainees and their fantastic results are somethingto be really proud of. He added: “The ACA is challenging and is no easy feat. By achieving these exams, our students are one step closer to becoming an ICAEW Chartered Accountant and achieving one of the most valued and advanced qualifications around.”
