The ‘Travel Trends Report 2014’ makes a brief reference to Cyprus, commenting that bookings were hit in the spring by concerns over the country’s economic situations. “However, the country has now recovered,” adds the report. Cyprus is included in the list of the most popular overseas holiday destinations in 2013 for Brits, along with Spain, Greece, USA, France, Italy, Turkey and Tunisia.
ABTA also concludes that while consumer confidence is slowly increasing, many consumers are still feeling cautious about their finances. This means that it is likely that 'tried and tested' destinations will continue to do well, a trend that is expected to benefit Cyprus as well. The 2014 ABTA Destinations to Watch are Brazil, The Caribbean (Antigua), Costa Rica, Greece, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Oman, Portugal, Slovenia, Sicily and USA (Texas, New Mexico, Alaska). More generally, ABTA expects the resurgence in popularity over the last few years of package holiday bookings to continue into 2014.
