Speaking during a visit to Paphos International Airport, Mitsopoulos said this meant that "we are ready to welcome new flights to and from Cyprus", adding that his Ministry had achieved the liberalisation of chartered flights from the Russian market and had also recorded positive developments elsewhere. Mitsopoulos noted that there was an increase in the number of airlines flying to Cyprus and that the Ministry of Communications was looking into prospects in other markets.
Replying to questions concerning the Open Skies agreement, Mitsopoulos said "we have the will to facilitate the launching of new flights to Cyprus but the other side must agree and contribute as much as possible for these flights to be carried out". Mitsopoulos also said efforts were being made to improve the connection of Cyprus' two airports, in Paphos on the west and Larnaca on the southeast, with places abroad and to extend the tourist period, in an effort to address the problem of seasonality.
