Notably, Cyprus leads its peers with an impressive 39 per cent improvement since 2017, the highest recorded in the region. Speaking on this achievement, Demetris Skourides, the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the RIF, lauded the collective efforts that have driven these results. “This is a significant success for our country,” he said, noting that “the strategic policies, the robust funding programmes of the RIF, and the supportive incentives from the government are all paying dividends, boosting our entire Research and Innovation ecosystem”. “As the Chief Scientist and on behalf of the Research and Innovation, I congratulate all contributors within the ecosystem for their quality work,” Skourides stated. “This collaboration is garnering us international accolades and strengthening our foundations for further advancements,” he added.

According to the report, Cyprus stands out as a pan-European leader in facilitating connections within its research and innovation ecosystem. The country boasts an appealing research infrastructure and has witnessed a substantial increase in the number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) participating in innovative activities.

Finally, the report showed that Cyprus excels in research publications, particularly those that emerge from collaborations between public research organisations and the private sector, as well as in fostering partnerships among innovative businesses.
