Cyprus in EU programme for green energy in armed forces

The Council of Ministers approves the participation of the Republic of Cyprus in the first European programme for renewable energy sources in the armed forces of European Defence Agency member states.

With its participation in the programme, in which five other EU member states are taking part, Cyprus is a pioneer in installing photovoltaic systems in armed forces establishments. According to a press release, among the advantages of installing photovoltaic systems is the employment of local workers to install and maintain the systems, the contribution to cultivating environmental awareness among soldiers and the youth in general, and the contribution of the Ministries of Defence and Energy to achieving the commitments of the Republic of Cyprus to meet the aim concerning the installation of 192MW systems by the year 2020.

There will be no cost for the state, since the investment will be made exclusively by foreign capital. On the contrary, there will be income from the sharing of profits among contributing states, the press release notes.
