Communications and Works Minister Marios Demetriades said recently the government is trying to pave the way for Cyprus-Brussels flights to be on offer twice a week all year round.
Talking to journalists after a cabinet meeting, Demetriades also said that – apart from Colbat Air – there are three other carriers applying for license to operate locally and with itineraries that also include this destination.
“All are at an initial stage. These applications go through two stages, the first is the technical one and the second is the commercial license which also examines economic viability criteria,” he said.
If the specific route proves to be non-profit making for the carrier then the government could subsidise it and cover all costs. This, after all, is a provision of the European Union, he added.
