Cypriot investment fund ecosystem given vote of confidence, CIFA president says

The 36th annual conference of the International Investment Funds Association (IIFA), hosted in Cyprus from October 23 to 25, 2023, has concluded successfully, the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA) said on Thursday, noting that it reflects the island’s improved status in this particular sector.

The association explained that as one of the foremost global forums in the investment fund sector, the event brought together representatives from leading Investment Fund Associations and Asset Managers worldwide. Moreover, the conference served as a platform for in-depth discussions on critical issues shaping the investment funds sector. “The heightened interest and engagement from participants, speakers, and distinguished guests from different countries underscore a collective vote of confidence in the Cypriot investment fund ecosystem and, more broadly, in Cyprus as a prime investment destination and a global business hub,” CIFA president Andreas Yiasemides stated.

Conference topics included the evolving global financial landscape and future challenges for investment professionals, while attendees also had the opportunity to explore Cyprus, experiencing its rich culture and engaging with locals. CIFA expressed gratitude to President Nikos Christodoulides for hosting IIFA members at the Presidential Palace, where he provided insights into the Cypriot economy and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the sector. “The enthusiastic participation of numerous industry luminaries in this conference, their eagerness to familiarise themselves with the Cypriot jurisdiction, and to experience Cyprus firsthand, serves as a momentous endorsement of our relentless efforts at CIFA,” Yiasemides said. “We have been steadfast advocates and investors in this sector’s growth from the onset,” he added.

IIFA, representing investment funds globally with members from over 60 countries, including major economies like the USA, Canada, India, and EU nations, manages assets exceeding $70 trillion. Cyprus, affiliated with IIFA since 2019 through the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA), solidified its position as a key player in the global investment landscape, as evidenced by the hosting of the conference in Limassol this week.

Furthermore, the 9th International Funds Summit & Expo, themed “Insights For 2024 And Beyond,” was also hosted with exceptional success from October 23 to 24, 2023. This event garnered the attention of over 400 participants from a variety of countries. Over time, this summit has evolved into a flagship event, consistently drawing heightened interest and participation from both Cyprus and the international community year after year. “Above all, this event represents a significant milestone, charting the future course of the investment funds sector in our country,” the CIFA president concluded.
