Cabinet extends COVID measures to December 2

Cabinet Ministers met today and decided to extend the existing measures preventing the spread of COVID-19, following a proposal from Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantelas. The current measures will now be extended until the 2nd of December and will be evaluated accordingly.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Health, the Council of Ministers studied the epidemiological data from recent days and, along with advice from scientific community in Cyprus and internationally, decided that great care will be needed to avoid a new outbreak.

Mr. Hadjipantelas noted that the epidemiological picture is already deteriorating in many European countries, forcing states to reinstate severely restrictive measures.

In addition to the extension of current measures, the Cabinet also approved the proposal from the Health Minister to allow booster shots for people aged 50 and older. The Health Minister emphasized that the move to begin booster shots for this age group was necessary due to waning immunity and a gradual decrease in vaccine effectiveness after 6 months.

Booster shots will also be allowed for those with severe obesity and metabolic syndrome regardless of age.

The Ministry of Health will provide specific information on procedure in the coming days.
