Booster shots begin for people 50 and over

Following the decision of the Council of Ministers yesterday regarding COVID-19 booster shots for vulnerable citizens and those aged 50 and over, the Health Ministry announces the following:

People 50 and over, who initially received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, can get their booster shots at walk in centers only and will be allowed to choose between Johnson & Johnson or the mRNA vaccine (Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna) for their booster shot.

Those initially vaccinated with Pfizer/BioNTech, or Moderna will have a booster shot with the same vaccine.  And those initially vaccinated with AstraZeneca will have a choice between the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines.

Appointments can be made by logging on to GESY's vaccination portal.  Alternatively, registered beneficiaries may visit the walk in centers without prior appointment anytime from Monday to Thursday, 8am to 1pm.  Those not registered on GESY can only visit the walk in centers on Fridays from 8am to 1pm.

Booster shots are now also available for diabetics aged 18 and over.  The same procedure above applies.

Note that a minimum of 6 months must have elapsed from the last dose of the vaccine before a booster shot can be administered.  Proof of identity will be required at the vaccine centers before booster shots are administered.

An announcement will be released in the coming days with instructions for people with severe obesity.
